Omar, born on December 12, 1968, in Birmingham, Alabama, emerged as a brilliant talent from challenging beginnings. His father’s early passing and his mother’s death when he was eleven shaped his path. Raised by grandparents, Omar’s journey in music began at age five in the church choir, continuing through high school, and blossoming as a member of the local R&B group, Midnight Blue.

Despite facing financial struggles in his early years, Cunningham’s passion for music led him to the University of Alabama before he decided to chase his musical dreams. Relocating to Atlanta in the early ’90s, he worked as a session musician and producer, establishing his label, C Note Records.

In 2003, a cancer diagnosis shifted his focus. After successful treatment, he committed to music full-time, delivering hits like “The Truth” (2006) and “The Best of Omar Cunningham” (2007).
